Voter Fraud Watch -- Do you have a story too?

Submitted to Tree City Leader for publication on April 2, 2005

Mr. X lives in Oak Brook and has lived there for
approximately the past two years. He is a very good voter,
though, and has not missed voting in an election in Elmhurst
since he has moved to Oak Brook.
According to the DuPage County Election Commission, the law
states that voters must register to vote in the precinct they
live in, i.e., their primary residence, where they keep their
personal effects, etc.
Public property tax records show that Mr. X's primary residence
is in Oak Brook because this is the home for which he used the
"Homestead Exemption." The Homestead Exemption only applies
to a taxpayer's principal place of residence.
Other clues to the X's principal place of residence include the fact
that his wife, Mrs. X is reputed to be registered to vote in Oak Brook
and the X’s also have a listed phone number for their Oak Brook home.
Mr. X’s mother openly states that her son "lives in Oak Brook."
Mr. X has figured prominently in the campaigns of Tom Marcucci and
Elmhurst Park Board candidate, Chris Healy.
It seems very odd that the X’s would want to pretend that they live
in Elmhurst. Why would this be so important?
